Great job on your blogs! As we have worked through this class, you have also developed your own instructional blog! You may find this to be a great communication tool to use with parents and students.
You have now subscribed to a podcast for a week. What did you learn from your podcast? Can you see yourself using podcasts to enhance instruction? Were you surprised at the resources that are available? Post your comments here.

I have been finding myself quoting Grammar Girl to my stduents when a convention question comes up in class. I have not added it yet to the computers in my room, but that is my next goal. I have shown my SPED stdudents where to find novels etc on podcast so they can download them if needed to listen to at home. I think this would also be a good skill to teach their families. I am glad we did this assignment because I don't think I would have ever takent he time to see exactly what was available on podcast without it.
I have my students listen to my podcast that I subscribed to! I subscribed on purpose!! :) It is called "Things You Should Know." Yesterday we learned about what Deja Vu is. The podcast did a MUCH better job explaining it than I did! Ha! Of course it caused a lot of great discussion- anywhere from having it happen to them to talking about a movie about deja vu...? (Never seen or heard of it). They got to learn about temporal lobes and brain things from this podcast too so great vocab along with information!
Anyway, this is GREAT for a lot of things! Of course, some of it has to be filtered in some places- for example, one episode on here talks about how Moonshine is made... Oops! :) Anyway, some of the episodes get lengthy so that causes some conflicts. My students have asked if they can subscribe to some from their iTunes on their laptops so I sent them to specials today to ask their computers teacher who has the security codes to unlock these "parental" controls. :)
My podcast was very interesting. I learned that podcasts are a great way to get students to listen to what you have to teach. Podcasts are fun for students because they are technology related. They are also a great way to communicate with families. I think that I will use a podcast to do my monthly newsletter. I think a lot of parents will look at it while at work or a spare moment at home. I was very surprised at what resources were available. If it werent for this class I never would have learned all of these amazing techniques.
I learned a lot about podcasts by describing to one. I didn't even know what a podcast was until this assignment, which is pretty sad. Now that I know how easy they are to find and use I think that I will be using them a lot in my classroom.
Not only are they a good resource to use in my classroom because they entertain the students, but I think my students parents could learn a lot from them too. The podcast that I subscribed to was Learning Basic Math, and my students could use this to review the math skills that my have slipped their minds. This goes for their parents as well. I was also surprised by how much information was out there on so many different topics. The topics were also easy to find using the search tool bar.
I liked the podcast that I subscribed to. I thought it was very interesting to see how other another teacher uses podcasts for instruction and/or communication. I was surprised to see how many great educational podcasts are out there. I feel like we could use one in our classroom, to learn from other kindergartners or to learn about concepts we teach to students.
I have been listening to LearnOutLoud. I have been watching and listening to podcasts of my favorite authors and illustrators. I have found out Brian Selznick's story behind "The Invention of Hugo Cabrel." I have also learned how Chris Van Allsburg's, "Jumanji" and "The Polar Express" became Blockbuster movies. I can see myself using podcasts to enhance my instruction in the future and was very surprised at the amount of resources that are available out there. I can't wait to start listening to more!
I have found stories read aloud by various people. I would like to use these in my listening station. I think that the kids could listen to the story and then diagram the narrative elements.
After creating mine, I think that it would be a great way for my kids to learn through technology. It was pretty easy, and I think the kids would like to create their own for a project.
I have learned a lot of information in regards to business and entrepreneurship. I really like the podcast that I subscribed to and plan on using many of the episodes in my Entrepreneurship class next year. I think I'll also look at other business related podcasts to see if I can use them in the classroom as well. I would like to get to the point where I can create some of my own but time will tell on that one. :)
The podcast I have listened to has lots of different technologies that can aid people with disabilities. Wow is there a lot of devices and software!
I can see myself using this tool yet I need to make the time to produce the product. I am truly amazed at all the casts available over such a wide range of topics.
I have learned a lot about the solar system probably more than my students need to learn but I still think my students will benefit from listening to it when we start discussing the earth. What I really like about the podcast is I can fast forward and have the students listen to what I think are key points they should hear. I am glad we have done this assignment because I didn't even know what podcasts were much less create one. I would like to think I will continue to create more podcasts but even if I don't I know I will use other podcasts as sources of information to use in my classroom.
There are endless amounts of information out there for us to use and our students to learn from. Because our science is so geared towards gravity and motion, I subscribed to one all about current things happening with space exploration. In the podcast the students got to hear all about what they are doing to the space station and how things are going with that. They included actual video clips so students thought that was pretty cool. Overall I love the idea of using them in the classroom as supplemental material.
I subscribed to a Spanish Grammar podcast. As I have been viewing the podcasts I have started to think about how I can incorporate some of them into my grammar lessons. One of them is over a grammar concept that I JUST introduced to my students. I shared it with my last period class and they thought it was pretty cool. It definitely beats some of the cheesy videos that go along with our book. :)
I loved surfing iTunes to look for podcasts. Even though I never had before, I couldn't believe the number of educational podcasts there were that I could use in my classroom. Students love all kinds of technology, and if it means not taking notes or getting out of a worksheet, they jump at the opportunity to watch or listen to a podcast. I will definitely try and use these podcasts in class.
My students and I have been having a great time subscribing and listening/watching different podcasts this past week. It got them excited about the one they helped me create and they all want to take part in creating more podcasts so that each of them can be in an episode. It is our plan to do so before the year is over. I have learned a lot from going through the ones on Itunes and looking through those made by classmates. It has definitely given me a new idea on weekly newsletters, that is for sure!!
I enjoyed looking at and listening to the podcasts. I was surprised with how many good podcasts are out there that could be used in the classroom. The podcast the I subscribed to I had a hard time getting them to play all the way through with out the sound cutting out. But I would like to use these podcasts at the beginning of the year next year to review the basics. I would like to create more podcast so my students can use them at home how ever it was a bit time consuming making one. I am glad we had this assignment because I was unaware that iTunes offers educational material.
Through this class and all that is involved I have learned much more than I ever thought I would about technology. The podcast that I subscribed to had not been updated in awhile, but I did learn alot about what you can use podcasts for. I think it would be fun to have students record podcasts of themselves reading books to practice fluency. If it's on a podcast they can listed to it over and over online. I hope to use these tools more with my students, but possibly next year when I can have more established over the summer :)
I have incorporated the theory podcast into both elementary band and junior high band. The junior high students liked the idea of of learning about music theory through a podcast. The podcast for this past week dealt with intervals which many of my students needed to review for their guild competition.
