Week 2, Part 1

Great job on the article comments. It was thought provoking. You all did a nice job with the responses.

This week, spend some time exploring the videos at Teacher Tube. Then, post your favorite Teacher Tube video link here. Include the link, title of the video, and why you chose this video.

Ony of my favorites is the Connected Classroom. It goes back to how the world has changed and that we not only need to be concerned about no child left behing in America, but that we need to be concerned about Amercian children not being left behing in the world. This is great for a staff in-service on technology.

I laughed a lot when I started looking at the videos on TeacherTube. I am a really reserved teacher and I know that I need to come out of my shell, but I don't know if I can do what these people have done. :) The video that I really liked was Mrs. Burk Perimeter Rap, which can be found at http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=734fe93831e3fb400ce8.

I really liked this video because it was funny and the teacher had a lot of energy. It is also related to what I teach, so I could imagine myself playing it for my students.

I actually have two videos I really like. The first is titled
The Power Of One
http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=cc3b2d253fac24326e5b&page=6&viewtype=&category=

I liked the message in this video. In my high school classes, we share our visions and this video would work really well with our goals.

The other video I fell in love with is completely musical ;) It is titled "Axel F". It is a group of middle school marimba players. Our school does not have the $$ to purchase marimbas with resonators like these, so it was so cool for me to watch this performance. I plan to show my drumline this video. In case there are other music fans out there, the address for this video is http://www.teachertube.com/search_result.php?search_id=axel+f&search_typ=search_videos&x=0&y=0

One of my favorite videos was The Cell Theory Rap. It was a fun video done by 7th grade science students. I liked it because it demonstrated what students had learned and it is a project I would use in my classroom.

Here is the link to my favorite teacher tube video. About rules! We have a school assembly, at the beginning of the school year and what a fun and neat way to start off talking about rules. I thought that the cop was hilarious.

I chose the video "50 States and Capitals (Cartoon Song) by teacheroz. I really liked this because my students learn all the states and capitals in 4th grade and this puts it to a silly song that I think could help them retain these facts better.

I have three links so far that I found interesting, entertaining, or useful on TeacherTube. The best one so far is How NOT to use Powerpoint.

How NOT to use PowerPoint is a great way to explain to students and teachers how PowerPoint can be used inappropriately. I talk about these things in my class but now that I have found this video; I'll use this as a teaching tool to back-up my DO NOTS.

I chose this video titled "How NOT to use Power Point" because I thought it was very funny and very true. I realize we are taking a technology class and the whole point is to add technology to our classrooms, but this was just too full of satire to ignore. As I watched it, I just laughed out loud, because I myself am so guilty of the aspects of "power point' overload the comedian is referring too. (ESPECIALLY THE TOO WORDY ONE.) I hope nobody is offended by this and can see the humor in it and possibly within ourselves as teachers who are struggling to implement technology into our classes and everyday world! Also, there are a few profanity words thrown in, so if this bothers you, don't watch! In summary, if we can't laugh at ourselves then maybe we shouldn't be in education.

The title of the video is Cloud Wrap and was made by Mr. Thompson.

I really enjoyed watching this video because I am teaching my students right now about the weather and clouds and I just know they would love this video. It has a catchy tune while informative. I think Mr. Thompson does a nice job of highlighting the important vocabulary words necessary for the students get out of the video. It also gets down to an elementary level that my students need in order to understand such a large concept.

I really liked this video because it does a great job of describing how digitally advanced our students of today are. As the video later mentions, if our students are so technology advanced, why aren't teachers embracing this and creating lessons that use technology? This video was just a real eye-opener for me.

I also came across this video that could be used in a social studies or history course. It is pretty catchy and I think most students would enjoy it. They use the song "We Didn't Start the Fire" to highlight important events that happened between 1945-1989. It was really enjoyable. I would recommend checking it out.

I enjoy looking through the Teacher Tube videos. There are so many interesting ones and then some that are just bizarre. I think the one that brought me the most humor was "Top Ten Things You Do NOt Learn About Teaching in College" taken as a spinoff of the David Letterman show. It really just made me laugh out loud. However, if I was to be serious about my video choices I would have to go with any of the School House Rock videos: A Noun is a person, place or thing; The Preamble; or I'm Just a Bill. These are the videos that helped me memorize that information and it gives you a warm feeling to think about something from your past that can still work to help others learn.

Top 10 Video link is.

I had a few favorite videos. Some of the videos took a lot of time and effort. But the one I enjoyed the most is Dalton Sherman an elementary student delivering a motivational speech to teachers at the beginning of their school year. The kid is funny but delivers a great message.

I have to say that I could teach a whole day from the movies on this site. I love some of these ideas and can’t wait to use this in the classroom.

I have too many favorites so I will try and limit them to only a couple.

I have seen this clip before but thought that it was so inspiring that I wanted to share. Do You Believe in Me? (http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=b27a83c4f50ff8305455&page=2&viewtype=&category=) is about a boy presenting at a back to school meeting for teachers and the message is outstanding.

Another clip that I thought that is very valuable to students is “Think before you Post” (http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=97eeae6788aa3348e553&page=2&viewtype=&category=). So many of my students talk about Facebook and MySpace and brush off the warnings and dangers we try and address. This video can be a great tool to show what can happen if you are not careful.

Last I thought the How NOT to Use PowerPoint (http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=3e2d61891b1e4051ef75) was hilarious. I saw other posts on it so I had to check it out for myself. My students enjoy using this method of presentation and I think this would be a great video to show at the beginging of the year to make them aware of some of the downfalls we can get caught up in when using PowerPoint.

This is a great tool for teachers and I look forward to using it in the classroom.

I am a huge Sound of Music Fan. I loved the Greatest Teacher http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=0013367f24e0b1fa7594&page=1&viewtype=&category=
It was a clip from the sound of music, when she is teaching them to sing. The narrators point out all of the things a great teacher would do. Including everything that is included on Madeline Hunters lesson plans, teaching to different learning styles, etc. I thought it was great!

Here is the link to one of my favorite teachertube videos. I actually was told about this video about a week before this class started. So when I heard we had to choose our favorite video...I knew which one I was going to pick!

It is a video made by a Spanish student about conjugating verbs. It is to the tune of Justin Timberlake's song, Cry Me a River. Except this one is called Cry Me a Verb. The same student has another JT inspired video called "Conjugations Back" rather than "sexy back".

How creative!

Wow, there are a lot of great videos on TeacherTube.com. One of my favorite videos was Remembering Martin Luther King Jr. I plan to use this video when I teach my students about Martin Luther King Jr. during the month of February. I liked the part on the video where they ask.."what have you learned from Martin Luther King Jr?" After the video I will ask my students "What have you learned from Martin Luther King Jr?" We could make our own class video on what we have learned from him. It is a very inspiring and inspirational video with great music and pictures.

The video that I really enjoyed was the ABC's for New Teachers. As soon as I finished watching it, I wish I had known about this video when I first started teaching! It gives such a wonderful explanation of what new teachers should and shouldn't do. It goes over almost every single situation and scenario that new teachers go through. If I were an administrator, I would definitely make my first year teachers watch this video.

The video I chose to share was a school house rock video about nouns. I know this is not very original, but I love the catchy songs that help to teach about grammar skills that students dread learning about (ok, maybe it's just my students!) There were a few to choose from, but I liked the nouns one because it's one I don't hear to often and it would be fun to have my students watch. This video can be found at:
